The Flower of Farewell
Lycoris radiata, known as the red spider lily, red magic lily, corpse flower, or equinox flower, is a plant in the amaryllis family.
The red spider lily is a beloved flower in Japan with a long history.
The plant blooms in late September and early October, which is also the time of year when Japanese people traditionally visit the graves of their ancestors.
You’ll see red spider lilies at Buddhist funerals. The families decorate with these flowers so their loved ones can be reborn and continue the cycle.
